I agree for old people and little kids, Picture It is good enough. Photoshop is too hard to use for them.

There are two that come to mind quickly. The first is Microsoft Picture Manager, a tool that comes with recent versions of Microsoft Office. It's an easy to use tool that lets you browse through your photos and do basic editing like red eye removal, resizing, cropping, converting between different formats, etc... It's fairly powerful and offers only basic features so your mom shouldn't get confused.

The other software I would recommend is Adobe Photoshop elements. Last time I checked, it costs around $100 US, and is a much toned-down version of Photoshop. It does not have features for professional photographers (less menu options to be confused with) but it is more complicated than MS Picture Manager.

Either one of these programs would be a good solution for your mom. They are both basic and easy to use. However, they both cost money.

A slightly more cluttered program that's free is available from FastStone. There are two programs available that would fit your mom's needs - Picture Viewer and Picture Resizer. Picture Resizer is the easier to use of the two and comes with less features than Picture Viewer. They both do all of the basic tasks you are looking for and then some.

If you are looking at price, I would recommend Picture Resizer from - it's free. However, if you have MS Office, I would go with Microsoft Picture Viewer - it's a lot easier to use but you need a recent version of Office.

I would say get "Adobe Photo shop". Adobe gets rid of red eye, does cropping and resizing etc. You can even make calendars, panoramas, scrapbook pages etc. It would be a good buy for creating and fixing your photos.
