    Pictures, of course.
Other keepsakes. Shells, ticket stubs to shows and movies you see. Basically, anything that makes you think of the happy times and want to keep nice.

The best tip is always get your thoughts and experiences down in your own words at the time they happen.
It’s called “Journaling” and I think it’s the most important part. Memorys fade. That’s why we scrapbook. Just because everything’s fresh and clear now doesn’t mean you will remember who everyone is, and what they were doing 20 years from now.

make sure that what you are using is acid free to keep it from fading when using soveniers such as ticket stubs, shells, programs , newspaper clippings etc you can use clear plastic acid free envelope type holders that can be found online (google scrapbooking supplies) or at places like micheals and hobby lobby to hold these items to keep the acid that is in them from reaching the photos i have been scrapping for years since my boys were little and i have completed over 100 acid free albums some are by theme ie beach , vacation, i have seperate ones for each of the boys and i have each of them albums covering their sports baseball football and track be warned its very addictive

One of the first things I bought when I started scrapbooking was a paper trimmer. Lots of companies make them, but I bought a Fiskars. It’s great, because it cuts the paper in a straight line (sometimes that’ hard to do with scissors), there are measurements marked on it (mine has a ruler that folds out, too) and you can get one that is 12″ long (so handy if you’re doing a 12×12 album). It’s worth the investment.
Good luck with your first scrapbook! Have fun!!

First watch for sales. Hobby Lobby has some good prices on scrapbooking. For paper you want card stock. don’t buy too many pattern papers, You will find them too busy. NO glue. You want to buy a two sided tape runner.
See if there is an Archiver’s in your area. They have free beginner scrapbooking and rubber stamping classes.

Next go to your library. They have tons of books on scrapbooking. Check out the magazines there too. You can check out the older issues.

Scrapbooking is a lot of fun! You are off to a good start. Some other things you might want to consider is:

    funny cut scissors
    Chipboard cutouts
    pens to journal with
    A paper trimmer

Also glue dots are great and work better than glue. This way you dont get glue over everything. You can find glue dots at your craft store.
